Spotlight on Some Current and Recently Graduated Students
Agata Filipowska
A recent PhD from the department, Agata is currently an Assistant Professor at Poznan University of Economics, Poland.
Agata Filipowska was born in Koszalin, Poland. She moved to Poznan, Poland in 1999 to start studies in the area of Information Systems at Poznan University of Economics. She finished them in 2004 obtaining the title of Master of Science in Economics (Summa Cum Laude). Her Master Thesis concerned the topic of estimation of real estatesŐ value with utilization of information filtered from the Internet. Agata Filipowska for her Master Thesis received the 3rd Prize in the Contest for the Best Masters Thesis organized by the Polish Society of Business Computing.
From 2004, working as a Teaching and Research Assistant at Poznan University of Economics, Agata Filipowska was involved in projects funded by the European Commission: ASG (Apaptive Services Grid), enIRaF (enhanced Information Retrieval and Filtering), Service Web 3.0, SUPER (Semantics Utilised for Process management within and between Enterprises) and USE-ME.GOV (Usability-driven Open Platform for Mobile Government). In SUPER and Service Web 3.0 Agata Filipowska held the position of dissemination coordinator. Moreover, Agata Filipowska chaired the Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Business Information Systems from 2004 to 2006. In 2007 she started the Cotutelle PhD Studies at Poznan University and Macquarie University Sydney working jointly with two supervisors: prof. Witold Abramowicz from Poznan and Prof. Leszek Maciaszek from Sydney. In 2007 she also worked for three months in SAP Research Centre in Brisbane, Australia where she focused on topics of Semantic Business Process Management and ontology development for the needs of business process description. In 2008 Agata Filipowska spent one month at Sheffield University, England working on information extraction-related topics. She is an author or co-author of several conference papers, journal articles and three book chapters.
In 2010, Agata Filipowska obtained a joint PhD Degree from both Universities: Poznan University (Summa Cum Laude) and Macquarie University in Sydney. Currently, Agata Filipowska holds a position of the Assistant Professor at Poznan University of Economics, Poland (http://www.kie.ae.poznan.pl/members/afilipowska). Agata is also a member of Services and Architectures Working Group of the Future Internet Assembly, member of ACM and Polish Society of Business Computing. Her areas of interest include information extraction, information retrieval and filtering and Semantic Business Process Management. She teaches courses on business process modelling, software engineering, information systems analysis and management information systems. She holds an iScala trainer certificate. From 2007, every year she receives an award for The Best and the Most Popular Lecturer of Poznan University of Economics.
Gaurav Gupta
Soon after completing his PhD from the department, Gaurav joined The Centre for Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism at Macquarie University as an academic.
Gaurav Gupta was born near Indore, India where he finished his early schooling and undergraduate degree. Inspired by his Math professor, Prof. D. Banerjee, he moved to Singapore for pursuing a postgraduate research degree in Computing at National University of Singapore in the field of data hiding and steganography. He came to Australia in 2005 as a PhD student in Digital Watermarking under the supervision of Josef Pieprzyk and successfully completed his degree in November 2008. During the course of PhD, Gaurav published eight research papers, out of which two were in Journals related to watermarking of digital objects including Databases, Software and Natural language documents. His research interests are watermarking and phishing. Gaurav has actively been involved in teaching at Macquarie University and is currently lecturing Object Oriented Technology at Department of Computing in Faculty of Science, as well as C++ programming and Information Systems at Sydney Institute of Business and Technology. Gaurav will be joining PICT, Macquarie University as an Associate Lecturer in June, 2009.
