    • ISP-Level Internet 'filtering': the path to Deep Packet Inspection? - Prof Vijay Varadharajan (Macquarie) and Alana Maurushat (UNSW), Presentation/discussion on the intersection between technologies for Internet content censorship, or ‘filtering’, and Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) is under-explored in Australia. By contrast in Canada, US and Europe DPI is more contentious than filtering. These technologies examine the content of Internet packets (header or payload) by an intermediary node other than the end point. Debate about content restriction technologies is wide, from freedom of speech and censorship, net neutrality and service quality, protection of systems from malware, potential as evidence for litigation, and protection of young people. Sponsored by UNSW, more information.
