Department of Computing
Print Quotas for Computing Students
The Computing Department printing costs to support the computing units is increasing and the department needs to restrict these costs. These costs are funded by the Computing Department and therefore the department must apply restrictions on printing in the computing laboratories.
The number of pages made available to a student is dependent on the computing unit in which the student is enrolled, and on the number of units. If more than one unit is being undertaken, the number of pages added to the student's account is equal to the sum of the pages for each unit.
The page allocation is added to each student account on a weekly basis, every Monday, during the teaching semester. Unused pages accumulate through the semester. The quota is set to zero at the end of the semester after the last examination date.
Your printing activity is logged.
If you run out of quota then Science IT will not add to your quota without an email request from the academic staff member in charge of the unit. Your printing history will be reviewed by Science IT before any adjustment is made.
Giving you a quota is intended to allow you to print material related to Computing Department units.
You are not permitted to use your use your print quota to print material from units not run by the Computing Department. If you print non-computing unit material then the Computing Department may disable your account.
In particular if, for example as has happened in the past, you exploit a defect in the print quota system then the Computing Department may take action against you that includes disabling your account and/or recovery of the costs involved.
All units are defaulted to 10 pages printing quota, unless requested otherwise by the academic staff member responsible for that unit.
