About This Unit

While distributed applications are continually being updated and new approaches to implementing data driven technologies are adopted, there are generic skills and approaches for the successful management of an organization’s computer based systems.

This course introduces the concept of system administration. It describes the duties of a system administrator, introduces the concept of super user and discusses how an administrator accesses and configures a system. This unit not only examines approaches for managing business critical systems but also examines ways in which these systems are most effectively integrated. All levels of implementation are considered, from software to hardware, user to administrator, and principles to pragmatics.
